Hello, my name is Janice. I am the website dev and one of the directors of Helpacat.org. I wanted to take the time to tell you our start.. Why help these people over those. My answer is long. The short of it and really the only part that matters is the cats need us. All of us.. in whatever compasity we are able to help. Reposting a site, telling friends, feeding strays helping to spay/neuter to lower populations, Or just money to help those who do these things like Helpacat.org or Paws or Pet Luv.
It all started with Kowlee, in the rain at night under my street light. I had seen her several times. Shes beautiful and I was surprised she was there as the people who live across the street from us had her for a little while. She was there right in front of me.. hungry looking for food but to scared to approach me. I'm like a mini mac truck I dont blame her. I just ran for food for her. No idea what cats eat I grabbed a hot dog! Yep a hot dog! Out I went in the rain and tried to share it with her. She was having nothing to do with me. Running up a driveway to stay clear so I threw the hot dog in tiny pieces as close to kowlee as I dare...
The very next day my Guy comes over after hearing me talk about kowlee all the night before. Explaining how I scared her away and she ran fast away from me too! My Guy calls me outside, has me sit on the ground next to the fence and brings Kowlee over towards me.. her already eating out of his hand. me. I loved her right away. I petted her and made space for her in our sunroom. Took time she wasn't use to playing or being petted or hugged. Took years to get her trust completely. She is the most amazing creature now. But there is more to her story.
There is three houses that are ran by slumlords two across the street from my house. One next door. Within a few month period people moved out in two of those houses one leaving 5 cats and the other 4. Thats how my cat population near my house started. I fed them because they were hungry and continue to feed them now. I fix them as often as possible but with mom being sick and me too it's not very easy. We get it done though. The population has grown from new people moving into the same houses leaving behind cats. People if you can't take a pet for the life of the pet.. you shouldn't take a pet PERIOD.
